Call for applications from libraries 2017-18: The Norwegian literary canon

June 29 2017

Is there a common Norwegian literary canon? Which canonised works continue to be relevant today? Is popular literature accorded insufficient attention when the best books are named? Which works and authorships would the libraries like to promote? Which publications of today will be the classics of tomorrow? How can libraries promote important Norwegian literature through new activities and initiatives?

Fritt Ord is calling for applications for grants of NOK 50 000 each for communications activities and debate at Norwegian public libraries to promote classic and modern factual prose and literary fiction. Applications for funding will be accepted for lectures, seminars, debates, dialogues or Internet-based communications activities.

Applications are invited from public libraries, or from individuals or organisations that have an event agreement with a library. Applications for funding may be for individual events or for series of events. The initiatives should be carried out in autumn 2017 or in 2018. Applicants are asked to draft a project outline that explains the theme, activities and time frame. Please attach a budget and funding plan.

Through this call for applications, the Fritt Ord Foundation seeks to encourage activities that will promote literature and strengthen public libraries as communications arenas. Applications are to be submitted using the form on our website, see Fritt Ord’s application centre. Label your submission “Norwegian canon” in the title field.

Deadline for applications: 3 p.m. on 29 June 2017.
