Fritt Ord hereby invites applications for grants of NOK 60 000 for library-related communications activities and debate based on Norwegian and foreign prose, fiction and comic strips about war.

Which aspects of World War II in Norway are still taboo? Which canonised works of fiction about war continue to be relevant today? How do experiences of war colour contemporary Norwegian society? What part can literature play in post-war reconciliation processes? Is Norway a nation of peace? How can one best explain the literature of war to children and young people? How does literature deal with the issue of foreign wars?

Applications are invited from public libraries, or from individuals or organisations that have an event agreement with a library. Funding may be sought for activities such as lectures, seminars, debates and meetings with authors. Funding applications may be for individual events or for a series of events. The initiatives should be carried out in autumn 2019 or in 2020. Applicants are asked to draft a project outline that includes the topic(s), activities and time frame. Please attach a budget and funding plan.

Through this call for applications, the Fritt Ord Foundation seeks to encourage activities that will promote literature and strengthen public libraries as communications arenas. Applications should be submitted using our online application form, see Application Centre (Søknadssenter). Applications should be marked ‘War’ in the title field.
