Who Gets a Voice in the Norwegian Media?
Who Gets a Voice in the Norwegian Media?
On September 3, 2025, the Fritt Ord Foundation and Retriever launched the report “Who Gets to Speak in the Norwegian Media?”
You can read the report here:
Hvem kommer til orde i norske medier – digital versjon
Watch the launch seminar discussing the findings:
Who gets to speak — young or old, women or men? How often are people with foreign-sounding names interviewed? Which professions dominate the public debate? And how do a journalist’s age and gender influence their choice of sources?
Do younger journalists tend to use younger sources? Are people with immigrant backgrounds more frequently featured in stories written by journalists with similar backgrounds? And what is the typical profile of Norway’s commentators?
The analysis contributes to the broader discussion about diversity in the Norwegian media. By examining who gets a voice in the media, we gain insight into who holds the power to influence public debate.
