Report launch: The status of freedom of expression in Norway - results of the demographic survey

September 3 2014

What is the status of freedom of expression as seen from the general public’s point of view? Is freedom of expression perceived as an important value in comparison with other considerations? What experiences do the general public have of freedom of expression – in the public space and at the workplace? How do we see the media’s role as infrastructure for freedom of expression?

The project “The status of freedom of expression in Norway – the Fritt Ord Foundation’s monitoring project” examines attitudes to and experiences of freedom of expression in Norway in different demographic groups and arenas.

In winter 2013, the project conducted two surveys about attitudes to and experience of freedom of expression in the majority population and among non-western immigrants and descendants.

Russia’s war against Ukraine and the subsequent wave of disinformation clearly demonstrates the need for independent reporting in the region. Journalist, editorial teams and media companies in and from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine and Hungary who make a contribution to press freedom through their investigative, independent reporting can be nominated for the Free Media Awards.
