Thanks to all those who submitted contributions to the 2016 Fritt Ord Foundation Competition for upper secondary school students. We received many exciting texts and media productions on censorship in both direct and indirect forms, featuring many good observations about digital surveillance, freedom of information, self-censorship and rebellion against established truths.

The Fritt Ord Foundation invites the public to a debate on the place of computer gaming in culture and society. The campaign is entitled Digital life – new facets of gaming, and it consists of debate meetings and an essay contest. Twelve essays about the importance of gaming and gaming culture are to be selected for and published in a digital anthology in spring 2016.

We warmly invite journalists from Russia, Central Asia, Eastern Europe, the Baltic or the Caucasus to work together to produce stories through partnership and collaboration that transcend their national border as a part of the Perspektivy programme.
The digital revolution has changed our lives dramatically, and technological development will permeate tomorrow’s society in ways we cannot even imagine today. We invite the audience, game developers, researchers and players to the “Big Stage” and we will address issues related to our digital life: Freedom, moral grey zones and how technological development affects us as individuals and societies. How far has the development of VR technology come? What are game developers dreaming up? Can the virtual world become more real than the “real” world? Are we ourselves in computer games?
In connection with the project “Digital Life”, Fritt Ord invites gaming enthusiasts and gaming critics to submit texts about new facets of gaming. How should one write about computer games? Why are computer games important?" What deserves emphasis? How we can take this new medium seriously and meet it with an independent, critical and possibly personal tone?
• What is actually needed to strengthen moderate forces of Islam in Europe and Norway?
• Is it possible to envisage Islam adapted to conditions in Norway? How?
• What are the most important strategies for fighting Islamic extremism?
The ‘kåkå quarrelsome cathedral’ once again invites the public to theme days in Stavanger in collaboration with Fritt Ord. This time the point of departure will be the concept of a “fellowship of disagreement”. At kåkå, we say that “the good quarrelsome person strengthens the fellowship of disagreement.” In a reply regarding the importance of the fellowship of disagreement in the newspaper Aftenbladet, the Chair of the Board and artistic leader concluded with the following twist on Norway’s Constituent Declaration of 1814: “In disagreement and faith until the Dovre mountains fall”. It is only with significant, good enough and not least visible disagreement as a foundation that makes it possible for politicians to frame sufficiently robust consensus resolutions in the city council and Storting that will afford us a stable and democratic Norway in future.
