Humanities and the Public Good

9. september 2014

The Fritt Ord Foundation invites you to attend a workshop with Dr. Stephen Tuck, Director of The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities (TORCH), Tuesday 9 September, 9.30 a.m. – 11.30 a.m., at Uranienborgveien 2, Oslo

As head of TORCH, Dr. Stephen Tuck will give a presentation of the new humanities debate in Britain, and the activities and strategies through which The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities engages with the academic community and the wider public. Special focus will be placed on their recent lecture series Humanities and the Public Good, which examined the role of the humanities in addressing contemporary challenges, and how humanities disciplines make themselves present and prioritised in today’s society.

These topics will be followed up in a subsequent roundtable discussion, chaired by Dr. Helge Jordheim, professor of Cultural History at the University of Oslo and co-editor of What about the humanities? A report on the situation of the humanities in Norway (2014).

The workshop will be conducted in English, and with a limited number of participants.
Free of charge. Please register by sending an e-mail to: tonje.olsrud@fritt-ord.no
